The BMW F900GS is the most off-road-capable middleweight BMW has built. Drop the weight, fit knobblies, and it will happily hold a fast line across rocky piste. What it will not do is stay calm when that line turns into embedded rock at speed — the front end starts hunting, and the rider pays for it in the arms.
BMW does not offer a steering damper for this bike, and the usual aftermarket answer is a set of bar risers, a stack of spacers, or a replacement top clamp. We took a different route: a mount that uses what is already on the bike.
How it works
A CNC-machined mount plate locates between the OEM top triple clamp and the original handlebar clamps, picking up the factory bar-clamp bolt positions. Nothing is drilled, nothing is cut, and the original clamps stay on the bike. A second machined bracket bolts to an existing point below the steering head and carries a stainless steel pin, which the stainless damper arm runs on.
The result is a Scotts damper sitting low and central, tucked in front of the bar clamp and well clear of the TFT dash and the wiring. The handlebar keeps its factory position — no risers required, no cables to re-route, no bark busters to reposition.

Steering damper not included as standard. Select the Scotts Performance option to add one to your order. The kit is finished in black anodised aluminium.
Fitting
Loosen the four OEM handlebar clamp bolts, lift the clamps, drop the mount plate onto the top triple clamp, refit and torque. Bolt the pin holder to the frame point below the steering head, fit the pin, fit the damper and link the arm. Hand tools throughout. Full fitting instructions are supplied with the kit.
